Olive & Ember · Anytown · wood-fired since the first frost
Oak and olive wood, a roaring oven, and a short menu cooked entirely over fire. Come for the smoke and the sourdough, stay for the long, slow supper.
Our story
Olive & Ember began with a stubborn idea: the most honest cooking happens over fire. We built the hearth first, then the kitchen around it, then the menu around whatever the fire does best.
Everything leaves the kitchen with a little smoke on it.
British produce, Mediterranean instincts. Flour from a stoneground mill, fish landed that morning, olive oil by the tin and lemons by the crate. We cook it over oak and olive wood, and we serve it the way you would at home, if home had a very good oven.
The tasting menu
Our chef’s favourite route through the fire, paired course by course. Keep scrolling to walk through it.
Warm sourdough, whipped smoked butter and wild honey. A first taste of the fire, still hot from the oven.
Paired with English sparkling, Hampshire
One perfect scallop, brown butter, preserved lemon and a crisp caper. Sweet, salty and a little bit smoky.
Paired with Albariño, Rías Baixas
Hand-folded parcels of wild mushroom and tarragon, brown butter, crisp sage. Autumn in a mouthful.
Paired with Chenin Blanc, Loire
Sea bream from the coals, fennel and salsa verde, lifted off the bone for you at the table.
Paired with Assyrtiko, Santorini
Rested in the embers, carved thin, served with bone marrow butter and charred leeks. The main event.
Paired with Rioja Reserva
A pear roasted until it slumps, cinnamon, oat crumble and a spoonful of cold cream. Then coffee, and no rush at all.
Paired with Amontillado sherry
